** This thread discusses the Content article: Minnesota Wants to be Like Florida **

I have an inexplicable love for the MLB draft. It’s so different from the others, and baseball is my favorite pro sport, so maybe it’s a little ‘explicable’.

You guys should already know that I am not a fan of the NFL draft, though I do pay attention to the results. For the MLB draft, I keep the draft tracker open. For all 50 rounds.

And during the latest MLB draft last week, I uncovered a hidden truth:

The State of Minnesota is trying to mimic the athletic successes recently seen in Florida.
Without going too far back (like Ciatrick Fason getting drafted in 2005), here’s a list I’ve compiled:

In 2007, the Timberwolves were on the verge of dealing KG… and they restocked their team by taking 2007 Final Four MOP Corey Brewer and Sixth Man of the Year Chris Richard from the defending national champs.

In 2009, someone made a ludicrous statement labeling Percy Harvin as having ‘character issues’… and the Vikings smartly picked him up. I am not ready to blast them for spreading the rumors, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the whole thing got overblown by some team picking late in the first round who was hoping to snare a dynamic talent.

These events led to last week, when the Twins started their draft by taking Florida Gators closer Billy Bullock. Then, in later rounds, they grabbed his bullpen mate, Tony Davis, and his battery mate, Buddy Munroe. Its worth mentioning Florida Head Coach Kevin O’Sullivan was a pitching instructor in the Twins organization earlier in his career.

To recap:

2007

T-wolves
#7- Corey Brewer
#41- Chris Richard

2009

Vikings
#22- Percy Harvin

Twins
#70- Billy Bullock
#372- Tony Davis
#672- Stewart Munroe

I think there may be something here. Is there a conspiracy? A pipeline?

Will the T-wolves get Nick Calathes?

Haha I love baseball and I still think your love for the draft is inexplicable. Maybe I'm just too impatient to wait around so many years for the players to make it to the big leagues compared to other sports.

And jeez I hope Calathes ever makes it to the NBA... Greece, really? (by the way, how come no article on that?)
