It seems like we have too many DL, both returning and in this class, to go to a 3-4. I'm really confused by what the depth chart will look like. Also, we just graduated all 3 starting LBs. The talent is there at LB, but seems like next year could be a big transition year if the defensive scheme is changing.
Also, when Tyrone Nix was rumored to be interviewing with Meyer, Urban made comments that he didn't think we were a match because the scheme would have to change...
Pretty excited to see how this goes. We don't play a good offense (sorry, USF fans. You just don't matter) until Oct 2, at Alabama. I'll take anything better than the defense's December performance against that squad
We will not be moving to a 3-4 any time soon, if ever.
There is a large possibility that the 3-4 will be incorporated, but there has been no actual quotes about it (to my knowledge.)
George Edwards was the linebackers coach for the Miami Dolphins and the defense was run by Paul Pasqualoni who ran the 3-4. So it may have been more of a requirement with the Dolphins.
However, we will never switch to the 3-4 and I imagine we will use it the way we used the 3-3-5 joker package this year.
We will recruit a 4-3.
But with the way Urban and Co. like to switch and rotate players to stay fresh I expect a lot of people to play.
Hohpefully Strong took the 3-3-5 "joke of a defense" with him to Louisville and the Gators will never run anything like it ever again.
I'm happy to see some strong talent at the DT position, which in my opinion has under preformed since '06. Floyd is definitely a 2-gap guy and Easley is so quick he can have a big impact on pass rush.
Was looking at this visual breakdown of the class: link...
Really pounded home how much of this class is DL and DBs.
Other than Orr, do you think any of the other lineman could flip over to the O? I think we add at least one more OL with the remaining scholarships, but still, some of these guys might move, right?
