According to CBS's Dennis Dodd, Lane Kiffin will be leaving Tennessee to take over at USC, replacing Pete Carroll. This is HUGE news for the Gators as Tennessee's recruiting will definitely take a hit, not to mention that it's gonna put a fellow SEC East foe in a state of flux. More to come later from Gatorsfirst.com. |

2009 NCAA Football: Top 5 Bowl Game Scores
Citi BCS National Championship
January 7, 2010 - Pasadena, California
Alabama 37 - Texas 21
Unfortunately, Texas's star quarterback Colt McCoy was injured at the beginning of the game, so it's difficult to judge how close of a match up this would have been. It was a little disappointing to see the big match up tilt one way so early. Bama clearly mangled the Texas defense. It is possible that Texas could have returned the favor if they were full strength. The polls show that country still thinks Texas is a deserving team. I would like to see Texas matched up against a couple more SEC defenses.
Allstate Sugar Bowl
January 1, 2010 - New Orleans, Louisiana
Florida 51 - Cincinnati 24
This game was more or less a joke that resulted from the system of drawing bowl teams with Florida being in the second bowl. It kind of makes you feel bad for Cinci. They are an inspiring team with an assortment or random talent. I would have much rather liked to see Cinci play a strong game against a lower team than this kind of cruel clobbering. Tebow played his last game on a high note, leading his team to victory, filled with emotion. It was a day of mixed emotions for Gators fans. |

SEC! SEC! SEC!
I live in Texas, so....
SEC!! SEC!! SEC!!
How many Gator fans are vacationing in California right now, thanks to broken plans to attend this game? To start with, 2 of we 4 Gatorsfirst.com founders, and the third lives in California, so he wouldn't count anyways. And I had all the plans minus the plane tickets (American Airlines miles would have covered it), so in my world it seems a great number of Gator fans must have had to change their plans. Which I'm crediting for the stories surrounding a struggle to sell Sugar Bowl tickets.
Anyway, the day is upon us. Time to focus on Bama and Texas. Let's get this kicked off (awful pun intended)... |

I'm leaving in a couple hours for dollar drafts and the Fiesta Bowl.
Yes, dollar drafts came first in that statement. Before bowl season started, I ranked my top ten bowls... and stated I'd rather watch my wife's rec league volleyball team than a bowl rematch. Last year, I ranked this matchup 7th. This year, I couldn't put it lower than 4th, because of the records of these teams, but I'm still not that excited. I'll probably watch for a half, depending on the score for the outcome.
We as fans of BCS schools can do our part by not watching- by &our part& I mean help our teams and our conferences, because the Fiesta could have passed up Boise State and selected Virginia Tech- a windfall for the Hokies and the ACC. They selected Boise State, so we shouldn't watch. Unless we want to continue watching Boise State. I don't.
So what of the outcome for this game? |

A few weeks ago I posted my top ten bowls of 2009-2010. I will be posting extended previews for some of them. The first of those is in a half hour, and I feel comfortable turning most of the necessary analysis to friend of GatorsFirst BlatantHomerism, a college football blog with a Sooner lean.
You may want to completely ignore my bowl picks, as I've been pretty set in last place of the GatorsFirst Bowl Pick'em league for some time now.
Anyway, onto the bowl preview... |

As I posted in the G1 Forums the other day, you can go to Pasadena with a horny Texan. At least if you meet the craigslist ad's requirement as a 'classy hottie'.
Well, in the interest of getting the full story, I emailed the guy who put up the ad, and wanted to get him to tell me more about it, as well as answer some questions related to the upcoming BCS Championship. After all, I'm sure I'm only one of many Gator fans who had to change their January plans. And I've never had my favorite football team complete a dream undefeated season. I wanted to find out more about this famous ad, but also use it as an opportunity to get a perspective on what it's like to have your team come through, rather than let you down, in the biggest game of the year.
What follows is his entire response to my interview questions, I'll let you read and come to your own conclusions below. |

The Solid Verbal Podcast (here), Friends of Gators First, has some year-end awards- the Verbies- that you can vote on here.
Tim Tebow is up for the Ty'sman, presumably co-host Ty Hildenbrandt's punny take on the Heisman (I haven't downloaded the latest podcast, featuring ESPN's Bruce Feldman, yet).
There are some other Gator and SEC-related votes you can make, I'll recap some of the votes I made below.
Don't just vote my way, vote how you see fit. But if you don't vote for Tebow, you're probably a venereal-disease ridden Georgia fan. |

Back by popular demand, I'm going to rank my top ten bowl games of this season again.
Last year, I came up with a list of top bowls to watch in the interest of setting my DVR while I was away from college football on a 2-week trip to New Zealand. Those bowl previews are archived here. I went 5-5 and stupidly ignored Miami's cross country travel and the Alabama let-down game. Show me you know more than me this season by picking the bowls here.
Anyway, here is the full list of bowls I came up with this season, along with some notes on the bowls I left out. Over the next several weeks I will be posting longer game previews for some of the top ten games. |

I will be previewing 10 bowls again, as I did last year. Look for that later.
For now, join the Gatorsfirst.com Bowl Pick 'Em League through ESPN here. We are playing straight up picks, no confidence points.
The winner (assuming anyone can beat me) will receive a Gatorsfirst.com T-shirt! |

Due to a posting error last week, we didn't post the results from week 12. Week 12 had 53 games on the slate, and a total of 54 pts were available. Al D won week 12 with 42 pts. Also, week 13 had 48 games on the slate, and a total of 49 pts were available. Henry won week 13 with 38 pts. Henry is in the season lead with 594 pts, followed by me with 591.
This week we have G1 co-founders James Brown and Chris Canada, G1 contributor Henry Testet (CFB 365), as well as our friend Ritch from the South Carolina blog Leftover Hotdog.
We aren't bookmakers, so if you plan on using these picks for your own personal financial gain, take caution. (I'd stick with mine, heh...)

The top six all won this week to stay undefeated. Contenders Georgia Tech, Pittsburgh & Oklahoma State all lost to bitter rivals last week, with OSU losing it's chance at an at-large spot. Championship weekend is here and BCS spots will be chosen on Sunday. Some conference pictures are extremely clear, and others aren’t. The title game, of course, is still up for grabs, as we see every year (see last year). And just projecting the 10 BCS participants (regardless of who goes where) is no easy task. Each week at GatorsFirst.com, we try to bring you the opponent's perspective to give a complete picture of each game. This week, I actually encountered a Seminole fan who thought they could win. I asked him to give us some of us his thoughts on the game. Check Bennett out on twitter here.
I am a proud Noles fan. I can't see myself without them. I haven't missed the last 2 seasons of football and basketball games for the Seminoles. Today their struggling football team will play the number 1 team in the land. Now even though I hate to say it, Florida has many advantages over Florida State. But truthfully, I think Florida State can win this game if they can do 3 measly things: |

It's the final game of the regular season and that can only mean one thing, FSU week. I have the strangest dynamic with FSU
compared to Florida's other rivals. While I despise Miami, hate Tennessee, and really love seeing those Dawgs lose in
Jacksonville, FSU for me is more good natured. If this seems crazy, let me disclaim myself.
With two aunts, two former roommates, and a half dozen friends or so who are big time FSU fans or alumni (not even the fake
kind of fans who bail since they stink either, but real deal fans), for me it's always been about ribbing people I know, so it
has never been vicious. It's been good times lately as the Gators are on a 5 game winning streak, and if it wasn't for the
''Swindle at the Swamp'' it would be 6.

It's Championship Week for your college fantasy football league!
Wackiness will abound, as 10 of the Big Eleven teams are on bye this week, as are great fantasy options like Oregon, Oregon State, and Cal, among others. It's also the annual rivalry week for many teams in the south (Florida-FSU, Clemson-South Carolina, etc), so you may need to look in some different places for good matchups.
If you are scrambling to fill out your roster for all these reasons, I'm here to help. |

The picture got a bit clearer this weekend. We now know the ACC will be GT/Clemson, the Pac-10 will be Oregon/Oregon St, the Big XII will be Texas/Nebraska, and the Big East will be Cincy/Pitt. We already knew the SEC will be Florida/Alabama and the Big Ten+1 will be Ohio State. The title game, of course, could still swing wildly, as we see every year (see last year). And just projecting the 10 BCS participants (regardless of who goes where) is no easy task. See below to get the projections from some of our Gatorsfirst.com contributors... |

Back again. No more BS, I'll just try and get this out whenever I have time. It's another yawner weekend in within The Conference, but there are a few good games to watch this weekend around college football as a whole. Last time I was around I had an average week but poor within the conference, going 1-3 in the SEC, 3-2 in the ACC, and 2-1 for the rest to end the week 6-6. Hopefully I'll be back to my winning ways this week.
SEC
It's that shameful part of the year where the SEC takes the 12th game granted by the NCAA and pounds a lightweight. Florida and Alabama take their turnsthis weekend with Florida International and Chattanooga respectively. Last time, SEC teams failed to cover large spreads against weak teams, this week I'm not so sure. |

Ole Miss, Auburn, Georgia and Kentucky face FCS opponents this week. I won't list those guys below as recommendations, because of the 25% penalty assessed in CBS leagues. Texas, chock full of guys owned in fantasy leagues, gets UCF. So I tried to find some other sources of points, but you could always go with guys from those teams I just mentioned.
Let's just jump into some fantasy advice... |

ANNNNNNNNNNNNNND I'm back.
It's been a while gents and ladies, but after finding my way from Starksvegas to Jacksonville with loads of work in between, I've finally compiled enough random thoughts in a timely enough manner to make a column so here we go. I'm skipping over recapping games that are 3 weeks old at this point, but will return to a quick and slimmed down recap next week.
Quickly, Starkville was a fun trip to a quaint town in middle America. The town's rep as deliverence is over the top, although I did sleep in the back of a station wagon on Saturday night. This was due to the nearest hotel with rooms being in the 30 miles away range, while my BAC was in the .15 range. I'd recommend a trip there once for every Gator fan just to get it off the bucket list. Their super gigantic scoreboard screen was kinda cool too.
Do I even need to say anything about Jacksonville? ''Another successful trip to Jacksonville'' is how I've been phrasing it. My attendance record in Jax now stands at 10-2 in favor of the Orange and Blue going back the last decade.
On to the picks!

Each week, we at gatorsfirst.com bring you the opponent's outlook on that week's game. We turned to the only Georgia fan we've been known to tolerate, Doug Gillett from Hey Jenny Slater. His game preview, originally posted here, is an interesting look at how UGA fans look at this week's team. If you're wondering what sort of expectations he had entering the season, you can see his SEC preview here, which was featured during our Full Month of College Football Previews back in August. Anyway, enjoy! Hometown: Gainesville, Florida. Last season: Won a bunch of games, lost to Ole Miss, Tebow's pledge, won a bunch more games (including Georgia), won the SEC title, won the national title, blah blah we're done here. The season so far: Haven't lost yet, but haven't looked great either; failed to cover in three of their five SEC games to date, including back-to-back nailbiters against Arkansas (at home) and Mississippi State. After reclaiming the top spot in the AP poll this week, they sit at #1 in both major polls and the BCS standings. |

Big news in the fantasy college football this week, as Dez Bryant's suspension will last the entire season, Taylor Potts may lose his starting job to the third-stringer, and Pac-10 (and fantasy) juggernauts USC and Oregon face off. I didn't even mention Adam Robinson (the Big Ten's 4th-leading rusher, and beneficiary of that Iowa OL that made Shonn Greene a star) being out for the season, and likely taking one of my league's title hopes with him (Big Ten, Pac-10, Independents only eligible conferences). Luckily, I'll be here at gatorsfirst.com guiding you all season long toward fantasy glory (which I fail to distinguish from actual glory). |

Our friend Allen Kenney runs a great college football website, Blatant Homerism, in which he covers the entire sport, but is an unabashed Sooner supporter. We previously got his take on the college football season here during our Full Month of College Football Previews. This week, he ran this piece, which provides a different perspective than we'll give on the recent struggles of Tim Tebow and the Florida Gators- though it is somewhat tongue-in-cheek. Look for our take on these same issues tomorrow. Make sure to check the original posting of this blog here.
Remember when the 2009 college football season was supposed to be one of the most exciting ever?
- A trio of potentially all-time great quarterbacks – Sam Bradford of the Oklahoma Sooners, Colt McCoy of the Texas Longhorns and Tim Tebow of the Florida Gators – returned to pilot national championship contenders.
- Going for a second consecutive national championship with Tebow and an incredible defense returning almost entirely intact, Florida had the look of a pantheon-caliber team.
- Ohio State had a chance to make a big leap under phenom QB Terrelle Pryor, while Big 10 rival Penn State appeared ready to create an exciting Big 10 race.
- The animosity between Texas and Oklahoma seemed to have hit an all-time high.
- A host of strong challengers looked like they could push USC for the conference title in the Pac-10.
- And on and on and on.
It all sounded so promising in August. Now, in the cold light of October, reality has set in.
College football in 2009 is an ugly, boring disappointment.

We are at the point in the fantasy season where we could see some breakout players emerge for the stretch run. I've been attempting to find trends in the last few weeks, so we can make intelligent moves for this week's games, but also identify some sleepers to stash on our bench which could be breakout studs that propel us into the playoffs or toward victory once they begin.
Also, the trading deadline has passed for CBS leagues. Meaning the only improvement you can make to your roster is through the walk-on pool.

Each week, we try to bring you the opponent's perspective on the upcoming game. For this week's game against Mississippi State, we contacted Brett Holloway, who writes at All Things Maroon. He previously helped us during our Full Month of College Football Previews by giving us his perspective here. You should visit his site this week to see a different take as we head toward the game. You can find his extended version of this article here.
It’s just Tuesday, but a lot is already being made of this Saturday’s match up, when the #1 Florida Gators make the trek to Starkville to take on the Bulldogs. What’s all the racket about? First of all, there is the teacher vs. the pupil factor. For the first time in a decade, Dan Mullen isn’t working side by side with Gator’s coach Urban Meyer. In December 2008, Mullen traded in one of the most coveted positions in the country-as Offensive Coordinator at UF- for his first chance to become a head coach. Due to the praise of Meyer, and the development of players such as Alex Smith, Chris Leak, and Tim Tebow, MSU was more than happy to offer Mullen that chance. |

So I got done writing this thing and realized it was almost 4000 words, so I split it in half. Here is part one which is the weekend recap.
A return to form this week as the picks were very solid. The highlights were a 6-1 run inside the SEC which runs the last two week's SEC picks to 10-3. This season I am doing well within the homeland with a total at 23-12 or 65.7% on the season. Meanwhile in non conference games I was 2-1 in games where I provided commentary, and 2-2-1 in the 5 games I tossed on at the end. The 4-3 mark puts the non SEC picks at 19-24 or 44.1%. The 10-4 combined score for the week leaves me at 42-36 for the season or 53.8%. Maybe I was on to something when I joked I should stick to close to home last week, since this mainly stems from weeks three and five where I went a combined 3-9 out of the SEC. OR maybe it stems from me betting on the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Week 6 had 55 games on the slate, and a total of 58 pts were available. James ended up winning last week with 50 pts. James takes over the season lead with 304 pts, followed by Henry with 298.
This week we have G1 co-founders James Brown, Chris Canada, and Jesse Colston, G1 contributors Ryan Crutchfield, Allen Delaney (The Punt Returner) and Henry Testet (CFB 365), as well as our friend Ritch from the South Carolina blog Leftover Hotdog.
We aren't bookmakers, so if you plan on using these picks for your own personal financial gain, take caution. (I'd stick with mine, heh...)

During our preseason Full Month of College Football Previews, Justin Goar (an LSU Tiger who writes for the Bleacher Report here) gave us his take. So when this weekend's game came around, we turned to him again to get his opinion on Saturday's showdown.
When ESPN's College Gameday comes to your citaaaayyyy, you know you must have a pretty exciting game on your hands. That much is obvious. &Big game& is even an understatement when the No. 1 Florida Gators come to Baton Rouge this weekend to take on the No. 4 LSU Tigers.
What's not so obvious is the direction in which both these teams will go after this game. LSU is hosting the Gators and is still a ten point underdog. First glance says the Tigers probably lose, Tebow or no Tebow. And to the college football world, that's probably what's supposed to happen. Florida returns a huge chunk of the team that won it all in '08. A team that embarrassed the Tigers a year ago in the Swamp.

By now you're in the thick of the race for your league championship. If you're falling out of it, you can catch some of your league mates napping and steal a couple wins these next two weeks- and be right back in it!
There are also getting to be more and more high-end conference matchups, injuries, and bye weeks, so you could be looking for that walk-on that's a safer start than your current roster.
While Nebraska puts a late-game beating on Mizzou, let's look at some pickups for week 6 of the college fantasy football seaosn... |

Going by last week, it would appear I've lost my ability to pick games as I got ripped a new one over the weekend (I don't divulge all my picks, but they weren't any better). I did fine within the friendly confines of the SEC, it was when I went national that I went a bad 1-4. Lets hope that my skills haven't completely gone on hiatus and come back from vacation this week. I have a feeling on the Gators but the way I've been this season that should scare the crap out of me. Instead I'll probably put a huge portion on Florida this weekend and hope to ride the gravy train. Anywho, on to the recap then this week's picks.
SEC
Alabama -16 @ Kentucky: Kentucky played a valiant first half only to fall apart in the waning seconds. They allowed a TD on defense, and then inexplicably tried to move the ball downfield with only seconds remaining from their own end. This of course immediately resulted in a pick 6 for Bama. Both offenses played better in the 2nd half, but the Tide was able to win comfortably 38-20. They covered the game time spread by only a point, but a cover is a cover.

With Oklahoma State, Texas, and Florida on a bye, (and Tebow’s status up in the air for coming weeks) a lot of top fantasy options are out this week. Sam Bradford also isn’t starting, and no one really knows what to expect in that Oklahoma-Miami game, so you might want to look at your waiver wire for some sneaky one-week plays. College fantasy is riddled with fantastic matchup plays each week, a product of having so many more teams than its NFL counterpart. |

WEEK 4 RECAP
SEC
I didn't do so well within the conference [Editor's Note: You can see Allen's week 4 picks here], but loading up on the Gators with some double bets pays off again (see week 2). I gave too much faith to a few teams, Georgia and Arkansas come to mind, and not enough to others like very scary Alabama. I'll do my Tebow take at the end of the article.
Florida -20.5 @ Kentucky: I double bet this early in the week at 21.5, and then did it again when it dropped to 20.5 to make sure I had 3 TDs covered. It didn't really matter as the Gators exploded in the first for 31 and ended any hope of a surprise upset.
Following the blocked punt I began yelling punt Kentucky punt. No one at the party where I was understood this, which was somewhat awkward, but it made sense because everyone was under 30. A minute or so later (could’ve been ten, we were drinking)my father called to mock Kentucky’s ineptitude, he of course got this jest immediately and repeated it to other elder SEC watching gentlemen who laughed heartily. So I’m good at making old people laugh, for what that’s worth (considering only old people buy books anymore... hmm maybe I’m on to something). |

Hey guys, we at gatorsfirst.com have been a little slower the early part of this week, mainly because a few of us have fought the flu or flu like symptoms in the last week. But I'm back and healthy, and ready to help you navigate week 4 of your fantasy season.
I’m going to try to stick to guys in BCS conferences, as your league more likely contains those conferences in some combination. I’m also going to try stay away from telling you it’s a good matchup to play guys against FCS teams. Use your own judgment for those plays, as some players will definitely put up stats, but will be subject to a 25% penalty. And sometimes the backups will get a lot of time.

So I've been AWOL for like a week and I apologize dear readers. I was super busy with work at the end of the week. Then my house turned into a hotel for Tennessee weekend, although it was obviously not a Holliday Inn Express based on my picks for this week. Now I've been hit with the Flu which I'm hoping is my body punishing me for a weekend of debauchery, and not Swine Flu. The Gators didn't do so well this week, and neither did I. Lets get straight to it.
Super belated weekend recap
Tennessee @ Florida -29.5: no need to beat a dead horse here, although if Tebow doesn't fumble and this game hits 30-6 I think UF wouldv'e scored again to get it done. Begin to notice a trend of exactly the opposite of what I thought happens. |

Week 3 lacks marquee matchups, which has to be why Gameday ended up in Austin (for Texas Tech to get blown out), and some people actually asked me if I thought they'd head to Gainesville (to see Tennessee get blown out). The odd thing is a lot of mediocre teams are playing other medicore teams (for more details, turn to NBC tomorrow at 3:30 ET).
There are plenty of matchups for value, though. A lot of teams have scheduled wins this week, but I'll go through some better players, and try to name some you could keep for multiple weeks.
