2009 NCAA Football: Top 5 Bowl Game Scores
Citi BCS National Championship
January 7, 2010 - Pasadena, California
Alabama 37 - Texas 21
Unfortunately, Texas's star quarterback Colt McCoy was injured at the beginning of the game, so it's difficult to judge how close of a match up this would have been. It was a little disappointing to see the big match up tilt one way so early. Bama clearly mangled the Texas defense. It is possible that Texas could have returned the favor if they were full strength. The polls show that country still thinks Texas is a deserving team. I would like to see Texas matched up against a couple more SEC defenses.
Allstate Sugar Bowl
January 1, 2010 - New Orleans, Louisiana
Florida 51 - Cincinnati 24
This game was more or less a joke that resulted from the system of drawing bowl teams with Florida being in the second bowl. It kind of makes you feel bad for Cinci. They are an inspiring team with an assortment or random talent. I would have much rather liked to see Cinci play a strong game against a lower team than this kind of cruel clobbering. Tebow played his last game on a high note, leading his team to victory, filled with emotion. It was a day of mixed emotions for Gators fans.
Citi Rose Bowl
January 1, 2010 - Pasadena, California
Ohio State 26 - Oregon 17
The Buckeyes and the Ducks played a close game until the third quarter. Blount, who is relatively famous for punching a Boise State player after their loss at the beginning of the season, got some more unwanted press this game. Blount's fumble in the 3rd quarter of the Rose Bowl marked the end of Oregon's good luck. After the momentum changed, Ohio State was able to drive to a solid victory.
Tostitos Fiesta Bowl
January 4, 2010 - Glendale, Arizona
Boise State 17 - TCU 10
The Fiesta Bowl was an action packed match up, and one of the more even matched and exciting bowl games to watch this season, all though low scoring. This game was a head-to-head defensive standoff, which came down to one amazing play. Boise State executed a ballsy fake punt, a 30 yard bomb on 4th and nine, mid 4th quarter, which led to a touchdown. Boise State caught TCU with their pants down. The score held, 17 - 10, until the end.
FedEx Orange Bowl
January 5, 2010 - Miami, Florida
Iowa 24 - Georgia Tech 14
Iowa must have felt at home in the chilly Miami weather, temperatures in the 40s. This was the coldest Orange Bowl on the books. The major factor this game: defense wins Orange Bowls. Iowa put serious pressure on Nesbitt and disrupted the GT offensive plan all night. GT's offense just couldn't get it rolling, their punter however had a great game with seven strong punts. Iowa on the other hand was able to cover some turf in the comfy weather. Rushing yards ended up only slightly in Iowa's favor, but total yards were 403 to 155. And that's all she wrote.
