I'm leaving in a couple hours for dollar drafts and the Fiesta Bowl.

Yes, dollar drafts came first in that statement. Before bowl season started, I ranked my top ten bowls... and stated I'd rather watch my wife's rec league volleyball team than a bowl rematch. Last year, I ranked this matchup 7th. This year, I couldn't put it lower than 4th, because of the records of these teams, but I'm still not that excited. I'll probably watch for a half, depending on the score for the outcome.

We as fans of BCS schools can do our part by not watching- by &our part& I mean help our teams and our conferences, because the Fiesta could have passed up Boise State and selected Virginia Tech- a windfall for the Hokies and the ACC. They selected Boise State, so we shouldn't watch. Unless we want to continue watching Boise State. I don't.

So what of the outcome for this game?

I think TCU will roll. Sure, the mighty Gators would probably beat them like they did Cincinnati, but Boise State has played exactly one good team. And I still don't know how to explain how my coaching man-crush Chip Kelly managed to lay an egg in the first and last games of the year.

TCU's defense is BY FAR the best Boise State will have seen all season. SMU is awful on defense, yet held Nevada in check. Why is this relevant? Because Nevada also put up huge offensive numbers in the WAC. Additionally, Nevada was shut out by Notre Dame- and I don't need to spell that one out, right?

I really don't know what to make of Boise State. One the one hand, they are clearly better than the rest of their conference, and probably can't make the next step without leaving the conference. On the other, it's not like they are getting a bunch of talent locally, or have a large following to justify playing in a larger conference or on a greater stage. Back on that first hand, it's almost like the job makes the coach rather than the other way around. Look at Dan Hawkins outside of Boise. Are we sure we'd want a Chris Peterson to take over for Urban Meyer? I'm not. For that matter, go back to Dirk Koetter and Houston Nutt. Are we ready to say any coach has had great success outside of Boise? What makes them good? Do you really want to bet against them?

In the end, I have to take TCU. It's taking chalk. It's not interesting. But I know they can play defense. I know the MWC is knocking on the BCS' door. I don't know what to make of the Broncos, though they did a damn good job choosing their current uniform colors.
