Once again I'm here to give you recommendations for your college fantasy football team. In the thick of conference schedules for most players, it is important to watch for quick and easy points that are available on your waiver wire.
As always, I'm pointing out players that play in BCS leagues or are on independents. No matter the makeup of your league, there are sure to be some of these players available. Ownership percentages are as reported by CBS. This week, I'll point out a couple players that have been overlooked in some leagues, even though they are still owned in a majority of leagues.
And now on to the week 8 picks...
Quarterbacks
Landry Jones, Oklahoma (Kansas) - 66% owned, 33% started - If you are in a league where he was dropped, it is time to pick him up. And he's a great start this week.
EJ Manuel, Florida State (@ Miami) - 34% owned, 13% started - I'm not a believer in Miami, and if FSU wants to climb back in the BCS race they need to start blowing everyone out. I don't look for Jimbo to take his foot off the gas at any point the rest of the season. Style points are a consideration for the Noles.
Munchie Legaux, Cincinnati (@ Toledo) - 4% owned, 2% started - The best name in college football deserves fantasy consideration for averaging over 26 points per game in the last three weeks (which includes a game against Virginia Tech).
If you're hardcore: Josh Nunes, Stanford (@ California) - 4% owned, 1% started - Sandwiched between last week's 2 fantasy point output v. Notre Dame and another 2 fantasy point output against Washington was a 47 point output against Arizona. Do you feel lucky?
Running Backs
John Hubert, Kansas State (@ West Virginia) - 37% owned, 24% started - This Mountaineer team is, uh, not known for it's defense.
Montel Harris, Temple (Rutgers) - 24% owned, 16% started - FIFTY-FOUR carries in the last two games means Harris has finally taken over the starting job. Not a ''Sisters of the Poor'' matchup, but he's getting carries and putting up numbers and is a must-add in many leagues.
Keith Marshall, Georgia (@ Kentucky) - 16% owned, 6% started - In the three games before the South Carolina anomaly, Marshall was averaging over 21 fantasy points per game. Kentucky is not South Carolina.
If you're hardcore: Tre Mason, Auburn (@ Vanderbilt) - 4% owned, 2% started - The sophomore seems to be much more involved in the offense after getting 18 carries against Ole Miss. Look for a coaching staff on the hot seat to try to highlight a young guy in an attempt to sell administration and fans on a brighter future.
Wide Receivers
Chad Bumphis, Mississippi State (MTSU) - 45% owned, 33% started - Yup, the Blue Raiders.
Austin Hill, Arizona (Washington) - 40% owned, 23% started - 2 TDs each of the last two games. And 165 yards last week against Stanford. Even hald those yards and one TD is pretty solid.
Devin Street, Pitt (@ Buffalo) - 18% owned, 11% started - His last four games were 13, 12, 13, and 17 fantasy points.
If you're hardcore: Stefon Diggs, Marlyand (North Carolina State) - 7% owned, 5% started - The freshman has emerged, his 89 yards last week was a low in the last 3 games (the other two went over 100).
Tight Ends
Ernst Brun, Iowa State (@ Oklahoma State) - 3% owned, 2% started - Has caught a TD in each of the last three games, and the Pokes have a worse defense than any of those teams (Texas Tech, TCU, Kansas State).
If you're hardcore: Chris Gragg, Arkansas (BYE) 37% owned, 26% started - Let's be honest, if you're really desperately scouring the waiver wire for TE production this season, you're out of luck. Tight end is AWFUL for college fantasy football. The most hardcore move imaginable is to pick up someone- and play them- that in all likelihood will get only 1 or 2 points less than the worse options out there. He should be back against Ole Miss next week after missing the previous four games, and when he is, he could be right back in consideration for the #1 TE in fantasy. If he was dropped in your league, go get him!
Defense / Special Teams
Georgia (@ Kentucky) - 57% owned, 37% started - In the decidedly SEC-savvy Gatorsfirst.com BCS Fantasy League, Georgia was sitting on the waiver wire. And apparently they are in many more leagues, too. A must-start this week, no?
If you're hardcore: Michigan (Michigan State) - 17% owned, 7% started - Greg Mattison's boys have scored 30 or more fantasy points in the last two games (which came after a bye). Michigan State is 104th (of 124) in the nation in scoring offense (per game) this season. |
