Week 3 lacks marquee matchups, which has to be why Gameday ended up in Austin (for Texas Tech to get blown out), and some people actually asked me if I thought they'd head to Gainesville (to see Tennessee get blown out).  The odd thing is a lot of mediocre teams are playing other medicore teams (for more details, turn to NBC tomorrow at 3:30 ET).

There are plenty of matchups for value, though. A lot of teams have scheduled wins this week, but I'll go through some better players, and try to name some you could keep for multiple weeks.

I’m going to try to stick to guys in BCS conferences, as your league more likely contains those conferences in some combination.  I’m also going to try stay away from telling you it’s a good matchup to play guys against FCS teams.  Use your own judgment for those plays, as some players will definitely put up stats, but will be subject to a 25% penalty.  And sometimes the backups will get a lot of time.

Quarterbacks

Ricky Dobbs, Navy (@Pitt) – I’m getting tired of writing about him EVERY WEEK.  He’s made to run that offense, and still not owned in many leagues.  If all the good QBs are taken in your league, and your Irish-fan friend made you include the Independents, you could do considerably worse.  The rushing yards means he’ll consistently put up points- and has the schedule and upside to warrant stashing him on your bench, and starting him when you need to.

Andrew Luck, Stanford (San Jose State) – I apologize for recommending him before, but you didn’t listen.  He’s only owned in 2 percent of leagues, and playing San Jose State.  Not exactly a geographic rival, despite the proximity.

Danny Sullivan, Arizona State (Louisiana Monroe) -  I’m picking on Louisiana Monroe this week, despite the great time I had with Monroe natives in Baton Rouge 6 years ago.  Sullivan is the starter, whereas many leagues will be small enough you won’t have a lot of options.  And he’s under the radar because he’s already had his bye week.

If you’re hardcore: Ryan Mallett, Arkansas (Georgia) – This belongs here because the matchup is far from a gimme- Willie Martinez jokes aside.  Arkansas is a good, below the radar team, with all of their other tough games on the road.  In short, I expect them to be fired up to win this game, and Mallett could gain some national notoriety this week.

Running backs

Onterrio McCalebb, Auburn (West Virginia) – This high-profile matchup might mean “stay away” to a lot of people- but Gus Malzhan’s arrival has meant great things for McCalebb.  Get on the bandwagon now, as his value is about to soar.  If you’re down a back because LeGarrette Blount is an idiot, this is a good pickup.

James Montgomery, Washington State (SMU) – I’m picking on my current school right now.  But you don’t get much more under the radar for BCS leagues than the Cougars.  Montgomery is currently splitting carries, but June Jones team hasn’t played well yet (they are 2-0 against UAB and Stephen F Austin), and this should be one of the best matchups he’ll have.  Maybe you could even turn a good showing in this game into a trade with one of your less-informed league mates.

If you’re hardcore: Emmanuel Moody, Florida (Tennessee) – Sure, he’s the third option or so for Florida running backs.  But this game will be a blowout, and Urban Meyer uses him as a closer- and called extra timeouts for him to get his yards against Georgia.  Moody is also a powerful runner, and UT’s defense is stout enough I could see him getting work early in the game.

Wide Receivers

Greg Little, North Carolina (East Carolina) – He’s only owned in 24 percent of leagues, and he’s supposed to end up as the Tar Heels’ number one threat.  I’m looking for him to reverse his early season trend of dropping the ball, and if you’re desperate and start him here, he could emerge into a stud over the next several weeks.

Greg Mathews, Michigan (Eastern Michigan) – Sure, the whole world knows about Tate Forcier.  But Mathews has the veteran experience, and will have another good game.

If you’re hardcore: Tandon Doss, Indiana (@ Akron) – Being the #1 WR on Indiana doesn’t mean a lot, and it may not mean a lot that this game is at Akron instead of a home game for the Hoosiers.  He’s been a consistent 8 or 9 points, which could be preferable for you over guys that could end up giving you a zero.

Tight Ends

Kyle Rudolph, Notre Dame (Michigan State) – It almost feels like cheating to reccomened Rudolph, as he is a top receiving threat for a coach that loves to call passing plays, even while he’s supposed to be running out the clock.  He’s only owned in 30 percent of CBS leagues, though.  Both teams had disappointing losses last week, so don’t worry about that part of it.

If you’re hardcore: Shamar Graves, Rutgers (FIU) – A nice matchup, but he’s far froma  fantasy stud.  He better get in the end zone if you start him.

Defense / Special Teams

Arizona State (Louisiana Monroe) - Their total fantasy points so far won’t look as good to your league mates, because they don’t realize they’ve already had a bye week.  They have the athletes to make some plays in a terrific matchup.

North Carolina (East Carolina) – A Butch Davis recruited defense against a C-USA team?  Skip Holtz is a good coach, but the talent difference will just be too much for his squad.

If you’re hardcore: Indiana (@ Akron) – Even if it’s on the road, it’s still a good matchup.  The problem is, they’ve only gotten 17 fantasy points, total, in two games: Eastern Kentucky (FCS) and Western Michigan.
