High Hopes & Hindsight: Florida vs Florida State Preview PDF Print E-mail

They haven’t all been in the normal Florida fashion this year, but each of the 11 wins have accomplished what they were supposed to; put the Gators one step closer to the SEC Championship and a consequent trip to Pasadena for the Grand Finale.

Florida (11-0, 8-0) plays host today to Florida State (6-5, 4-4) in a game that has plenty of motivation on both sides, albeit for different reasons. The Gators come in today two wins away from an SEC title and three wins from their 3rd BCS title in four years. It is also Senior Day, a chance to send Tim Tebow, Brandon Spikes, Riley Cooper and a handful of other Gators off in typical Florida Gator style. The Seminoles make the trip to Gainesville trying to end another mediocre season by derailing the Gators plans of a California vacation in January. You’d have think there is also a “win one for the gipper” mentality for the Seminoles as most agree this will be Coach Bowden’s last game coaching in the Swamp (a la Ron Zook’s 2004 victory in Tallahassee).

Expect the Gators to show what the entire country has been expecting from them in a highly emotional game for the Florida team. The coaches will open up their playbook, as well the offense, to give the Seniors a chance to shine for the country. Florida’s defense will stuff the FSU ‘D’, allowing only a few field goals and a lone TD late in the 4th quarter.

As we all gather in the corner after the game to sing our Alma Mater with our band and team, remember the past four years we’ve had with our seniors.

Think of how much greater the Swamp is because they’ve stepped foot in it.

Look forward to the years to come with great players we have now and those we haven’t even heard of yet.

It truly is Great to be a Florida Gator.

Half Time Score: Florida 31 – Florida State 6

Final Score: Florida 42 – Florida State 16

I really want Bowden to end up with a losing record against the Gators. 17-17-1 going into today!
