Florida extends its winning streak to 21 games, previously mentioned in the media as the longest streak in SEC history. However, from 1978 – 1980, Alabama won 28 straight games.
With the victory over the Golden Panthers (the first matchup between the two teams), the 2009 senior class became the winningest class in Florida history, marking only the second time in UF history the Gators have started 11-0.
With Tebow’s 55-yard rushing TD early in the game, he took sole possession of the SEC record for total touchdowns (rushing/receiving) in a career with 54. The run was also the longest of his career and the longest run by a UF quarterback since Chris Leak’s 45-yard scamper against Alabama in 2006.
With his 317 total yards, Tebow moved into third place on the all-time SEC total offense list with 11,078 yards, putting Georgia’s Eric Zeier and Tennessee’s Peyton Manning in his rear-view mirror and Georgia’s David Greene (11,270) and his 2006 national championship teammate Chris Leak (11,380) ahead of him.
College Gameday is coming to Gainesville next week for the Florida State game, the eighth time that the UF/FSU matchup has been part of Gameday, more than any other matchup the program has covered. Florida will be making its 31st appearance on Gameday, a figure that leads the nation. Ohio State is in 2nd with 25 appearances. Saturday will be the 11th time Florida has hosted Gameday, only one behind Ohio State (12). Florida last appeared on Gameday during the LSU game this year, and last hosted Gameday during the Miami game last year.
