Our friend Scott Hall gives his weekly look deeper into the stats of the previous week's game. Enjoy.
Florida extends its winning streak to 22 games with a 37-10 victory over Florida State in front of a stadium-record 90,907 fans. Florida is now 33-19-2 all-time and 20-8-1 at home against the ‘Noles. Bobby Bowden falls to 17-18-1 against the Gators, the first time he’s had a losing record against Florida since 1988.
During their current 6-game win streak over FSU, Florida has outscored the ‘Noles 202-71. In his three games against Florida State, Tim Tebow has accounted for 14 total touchdowns – 9 passing, 5 rushing. This past Saturday, he threw for three touchdowns and ran for 2 more in his final matchup against the team out West.
Some stats analysts questioned the validity of Tebow’s first place record in SEC rushing/receiving history, as bowl games stats weren’t included when UGAs Herschel Walker set the records. However, with his two rushing touchdowns on Saturday, Tim Tebow took undisputed possession of first place in SEC TD history with 56 rushing TDs.
Tebow wanted his last touchdown in the Swamp to be a jump pass to tight end Aaron Hernandez; in fact, he called the play himself, giving a jumping signal to the sidelines to get his point across. Then the play was blown up when Hernandez was tackled coming off the line of scrimmage. After that, it was up to Tebow to run it in one more time, giving him the 56th career rushing TD.
Florida’s senior class has more wins (47) than any other class in SEC history. They also improved to 12-1 against their four traditional rivals – Tennessee (4-0), Georgia (3-1), Florida State (4-0), and Miami (1-0). |
