A Deeper Look At the Numbers: Vanderbilt PDF Print E-mail
Written by Scott Hall
Monday, 09 November 2009

Our friend Scott Hall gives his weekly look deeper into the stats of the previous week's game. Enjoy.

Florida extends its winning streak to 19 with a 27-3 victory over Vanderbilt, Florida’s 19th consecutive win over the Commodores. Florida improves to 32-9-2 all-time against Vandy, and 18-1-1 at home. Florida last lost to Vanderbilt in 1988, a 9-24 loss in Nashville. The Gators played that game without Emmitt Smith and starting quarterback Kyle Morris. Vanderbilt’s only win in Gainesville was the first matchup between the teams, a 7-0 win in 1945.

The Gators (9-0, 7-0 SEC) held the Commodores (2-8, 0-6 SEC) to just 99 yards rushing and 100 yards passing, the sixth time this season the defense held its opponent to under 100 yards rushing. Junior tight end Aaron Hernandez had a career day, tallying a career-tying 7 receptions for a career-high 120 yards through the air, including a career-long 64-yard haul in the fourth quarter.

The game got off to a slow start, with the Gators taking a 13-0 lead into halftime, marking the first time the Gators held an opponent scoreless in the first half since the Vanderbilt game last year.

Tebow scored his 52nd career rushing TD, tying Georgia’s Herschel Walker in total career touchdowns (rushing and receiving). LSU’s Kevin Faulk owns the record with 53 touchdowns.

Fast Facts:

-Both the SEC East and West divisions are decided, the earliest date this has ever happened (11/7).

-Florida’s enrollment: 51,913. Vanderbilt’s enrollment: 6,402.

-Vanderbilt will play 12 straight games without a bye week this season.

-Florida running backs coach Kenny Carter was the running backs coach and recruiting coordinator at Vanderbilt from 2004-2007.

-The longest winning streak by an SEC school is 20 (Auburn, 1993-1994).
