BREAKING NEWS: Gators receive surprise 26th Commitment PDF Print E-mail
Written by DK_Thompson

Connecticut QB Tyler Murphy is the Gators newest commitment. Tyler Murphy, who was previously committed to Temple, committed to the Gators over the weekend after an official visit.

Murphy is a 6'2, 190 pound dual-threat QB, who ran a 4.4 forty yard dash and has a 35 inch vertical jump.

Murphy passed for 1,124 yards and nine touchdowns and rushed for 1,1213 yards and 15 touchdowns on 130 carries as a senior.

This may come as a surprise to some Gator fans, but with uncertainty of Trey Burton and some recruiting targets signing with other schools, a spot opened up for Murphy.

Murphy will be the Gators second QB in as many classes from Connecticut (Jordan Reed).

eh, this does not make any sense. guess they aren't counting on Trey Burton OR Jordan Reed. i trust the staff, but there is a shit ton of talent on the board still and he may be our last commitment. i was hoping for another olineman.

at the very least, Brantley will be exception for a very long time...

We do need a couple of QBs, but are any of these guys going to be ready behind Brantley?

Seems like everyone is a good athlete/project that we are getting in there. Or I am assuming this guy is also a "project" type because he was previously committed to Temple (!) and because he played against weaker HS competition (Connecticut).

I do like the idea if we can get a couple guys in this class.

And to clarify for some of our readers who have been paying more attention to basketball or something other than recruiting: the "uncertainty" you refer to about Burton is the fact that he's considered a "project" and is not some 5-star stud/lock to be great... he's on campus already and has been one of the guys to recruit other prospects onto the team, so it's not "uncertain" that he'll be a Gator, just uncertain how good he'll be, and how soon.

Ok, i'm a little less hesitant about this commitment after watching his video. nice release, and does it well on the run. looks like he'll provide some quality depth.

This guy looks like he could be turned into a Harvin-like player. Add a few pounds of muscle and he would be great as a 'wildcat'/slot back. IMHO...

Also looke like a great WR candidate with that size and speed. Sure, another OL stud would have been nice but quality is quality.

Also saw another post, he was asked about moving to another position and he said that he was going to Florida to be a QB. Just give Meyer and the staff some time on him...he will be placed where he best fits for himself and the team.
