There are not too many things that would get us out of our holiday slumber. However, reports are out that head football coach Urban Meyer will be stepping down from his job due to health concerns, following the Sugar Bowl on New Year's day. This is shocking news following the heartbreaking loss to Alabama in the SEC championship game.
Immediately after that game, Meyer was admitted to Shands medical center for severe dehydration. It was later revealed that he had been diagnosed with a arachnoid cyst on his brain in 1998. This cyst, while not life-threatening, would trigger chest pains, severe headaches, and nausea when stress levels were high.
We'll bring more information as it filters in. As for now, Gatorsfirst.com thinks the short list for the job are:
Chip Kelly - Oregon (offensive guru and G1's preferred choice)
Charlie Strong - Lousiville (certain to be 1st choice by national media)
Gary Patterson - TCU (currently BCS #4, led team to 1st BCS game)
Chris Peterson - Boise St (currently BCS #6, offensive guru)
Paul Johnson - Georgia Tech (currently BCS #9, offensive guru)
Mike Leach - Texas Tech (offensive guru, heavy passing attack)
Steve Spurrier - South Carolina (love the OBC, can't see him returning)
Bob Stoops - Oklahoma (former ties to the school, slim chances)
Mike Shanahan - NFL (former ties to the school, slim chances)
Jon Gruden - NFL (former ties to Urban, slim chances)
