23-13… really? The score against Tennessee doesn’t bother me but the Gators really need a strong showing today against Kentucky to win over those who are asking that question. The truth is, Florida has their eyes set on the big show and are on the same track whether they beat Tennessee by 10 or by 100. So what’s the problem? The problem is we are talking about the Gators. The big, ugly pick to win it all Gators. A lot of people have put their neck on the line for Florida and a close win (on paper) can bring a little sweat to your brow...
Florida (3-0, 1-0) comes into today’s game against Kentucky (2-0,0-0) with the desire to prove they can score as many points as they want. Not good for the Wildcats. UK head coach Rich Brooks put it best this week when he said &They didn't light up the scoreboard like they're accustomed to lighting it up, so I'm sure they're going to want to come in here and show everybody their offense is still very explosive.&
So, no problem right? Well, maybe... Reports are several Gators have come down with the flu including Tim Tebow who was one of three players to take a separate flight to Lexington in effort to stay isolated from the rest of the team. Couple that with other injuries, including Brandon Spikes’ tendinitis, and the Gators may not put on the dominating performance that many are expecting.
I would expect Florida to try to open it up more than last week (did they try at all?) and the outcome will be dependent on the true status of the injured and ill. A 75% Florida team is still better than most others at 100% so I still wouldn’t expect many problems today. I look for Florida to be much more settled and disciplined than they’ve looked the first three games resulting in fewer penalties (which will result in few lost yards and more points). You will see Tebow airing the ball out early and the success of those attempts will really determine if we see a blow-out or a knock-out type ground game similar to last week. There is a good chance of the latter unless Florida’s receivers really step up… all of them. Either way, the Gators will leave the Bluegrass State 4-0 still marching towards Atlanta.
Predicted Half Time Score: Florida 24 – Kentucky 10
Predicted Final Score: Florida 45 – Kentucky 16
