Rivalry week. In the SEC, “rivalry game” just means “Saturday”. This week for the Florida Gators is no different.
We are renewing our longest running series, and oldest rivalry, with a matchup against Bye. A lot of pundits have said Bye week could not have come at a better time, so let’s go ahead and talk about the latest Gator nation news this week, and see how the players are doing as we head toward this anticipated matchup.
“When you wake up Monday morning, and you’ve got Bye circled on your calendar for Saturday, you know it’s going to be one of those weeks that gets your blood pumping”, said Brandon Spikes, when reached by GatorsFirst.com the morning of September 31st. Spikes, the Florida Gators defensive leader, is predicting the Florida Gators long-running streak of not allowing a TD during Bye week will be extended to 103 years. In fact, the University of Florida Gators football team is predicted to prevent any points at all from being scored this weekend.
Quarterback Tim Tebow suffered a Grade 3 concussion last week, but backup QB Johnny Brantley will be ready to lead the offense this week. The Bye week could provide a tune-up for Brantley to get ready for his first road start against LSU, depending on Tebow’s recovery. The latest report from Coach Urban Meyer is that Tebow is &doing good&, and his return to the field during that LSU game is not ruled out. However, he will definitely not be playing a game this weekend.
Bye did not return voicemails left by GatorsFirst.com, in keeping with its long-standing policy of silence.
