The Oklahoma City subregion features 4 teams: the BYU Cougars, your Florida Gators, the Kansas State Wildcats, and the North Texas Mean Green.
The opponent the Gators are the least likely to face is North Texas.
What are some things you should know about this opponent, to impress your friends at the bar on St. Patrick's Day (aka March Madness eve)?
Tournament Outlook
First off, North Texas doesn't have a prayer here. If you're filling out a bracket at your office, and not automatically putting all of the 1's and 2's into the Round of 32... well, you're either lighting money on fire or financing your co-worker's meth habit. Whichever is more relevant to your workplace.
That being said, Denton (site of UNT) is a pretty fun college town, despite it's inclusion in the enormous sprawl of the Dallas-Ft. Worth Metroplex. Probably helps it's pretty much the northwest extreme of suburbia. It's also around 3 hours from OKC, so there could be quite a few students making the trip.
Extremely Random Observation
If 'relevance of mascot to St. Patrick's Day revelry in Bricktown the night before the game' were an NCAA stat... well, the 'Mean Green' win. Though I'm hoping all my encounters with St. Patty's Day leprechauns are jolly... or at least not 'mean'.
How They Got Here
Won the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.
My First Thought When Hearing Their Name on Selection Sunday Was...
...About Chase Daniel. And no, I don't mean in a creepy way like G1 NFL Draft Correspondent Krutch and his man-crush on the chubby QB. North Texas football Head Coach Todd Dodge coached Daniel and current Alabama QB Greg McElroy at Texas High School football powerhouse Southlake Carroll. |
