Now reports are out that head coach Urban Meyer will not resign from his current position, but instead will take a ''leave of absence'' from football coaching responsibilities while he continues to rehabilitate himself amid rising health concerns. The sudden flip-flop shifts the combined emotions of the Gator Nation from devastated to optimistic in an instant.
Gator fans have dealt with a similar roller-coaster ride before, when basketball coach Billy Donovan signed with`the Orlando Magic, then changed his mind following the introductory press conference. Hopefully Urban will heal himself during his sabbatical, and come back with a renewed sense of purpose.
I believe these recent developments put the football program in quite the awkward position. The recruiting class will surely take a hit. Borderline commits and prospects now have to weigh the possibility that the coaching staff could be changing on a whim. It'll be interesting to see how this all plays out.
In the meantime, stay tuned to Gatorsfirst.com as more information comes in.
