Official G1 Football Recruiting Update - 1/21 PDF Print E-mail
Written by Gators First
Thursday, 22 January 2009
Now the season is over, Urban Meyer and his staff will start to focus solely on recruiting. National signing day is February 4th and there is a lot of work to be done, especially making up for all those that are leaving. Here is a detailed list of commits and recruits that have Florida on their radar. This list has links to scout.com, rivals.com, and espnu.com that will give a little more background on these players. We at GatorsFirst will be adding our own analysis to these players and their impact to the future of the program. If anyone hears of any news on any of these players, or other players that we don't have, please leave a comment at the bottom and we'll update it. We will be updating this on a regular basis, so please check back often. Enjoy!

Update: 1/21 - Orson Charles loved his visit this past weekend, Greg Reid has officially taken Florida off of his list, and Kendall Kelly narrows his list (w/o Florida). read below for more info.

Solid Commits

Offense

Backs

Jordan Reed - QB - New London, CT
    Scout - 3 star - #42, Rivals - 4 star - #10, ESPNU - 81 grade - #13

Mike Gillislee - RB - Deland, FL
    Scout - 3 star - #43, Rivals - 4 star - #7, ESPNU - 81 grade #14

Receivers/Tight Ends

Andre Debose - WR - Sanford, FL
    Scout - 5 star - #3, Rivals - 5 star - #2, ESPNU - 85 grade - #2
Nu'Keese Richardson - WR - Pahokee, FL
    Scout - 4 star - #6, Rivals - 4 star - #9, ESPNU - 81 grade - #13

Desmond Parks - TE - Greer, SC
    Scout - 3 star - #43, Rivals - 3 star - #16, ESPNU - 78 grade - #21

G1's take: These positions are getting a lot of attention from Gator fans, as Aaron Hernandez is the only returning TE, and we lose Percy Harvin and Louis Murphy.  While I personally feel 'replacing' these guys will come mostly by guys in our system already (Deonte Thompson, Carl Moore, probably another guy no one is talking about), landing even one 'immediate impact' guy could be huge for our program.  Not only for next year, but for the dreaded 2010, when we will probably see an exodus from Gainesville.  Having a freshman or two prove his meddle in 2009 could really help Johnny Brantley (or whoever) in his first year as a starter in 2010. -JB

Offensive Linemen

Xavier Nixon - OT -     Fayetteville, NC
    Scout - 5 star - #1, Rivals - 5 star - #3, ESPNU - 83 grade - #7
Kyle Koehne - OT - Indianapolis, IN
    Scout - 3 star - #35, Rivals - 3 star - #33, ESPNU - 77 grade - #64

Nick Alajajian - OG - Naples, FL
    Scout - 4 star - #2, Rivals - 4 star - #4, ESPNU - 82 grade - #3
Jonotthan Harrison - OG - Groveland, FL
    Scout - 4 star - #10, Rivals - 4 star - #11, ESPNU - 75 grade - #108
Jon Halapio - OG - St. Petersburg, FL
    Scout - 3 star - #23, Rivals - 3 star - #27, ESPNU - 73 grade - #142

G1's take: Again, this is one of the positions where we actually lose starters before next season.  While the Pouncey twins are back, and are the anchor of our line, we lose both tackles.  However, talented OL like the Pounceys are very rare in that they made an immediate impact on our line play.  The holes on the line will almost certainly have to be filled by some of those highly rated guys we got in past classes.  This class is critical more in adding the depth, and for replacing the Pounceys in 2010 (I am almost certain they should grade out as first round talent, and if the NFL rookie cap starts in 2011 as expected, everyone will leave after next season)-JB

Debose is the prime catch for this class......Marlon Brown and Debose would be one hell of a combo, kinda like a Caldwell/Gaffeny tandam.

I know that Marlon visits gainesville this weekend. I have heard that OSU is in the lead for his services followed by UGA and UT and then UF. Hopefully they can charm the pants off and get him onboard.

All jokes aside, are there any reports about any of the recruits that came in this past weekend? It was a HUGE weekend for recruits in Gainesville

Here is a report from the G'ville Sun.

What is the record for attracting recruits whose name gets chanted? I remember Lon Kruger recruiting Vince Carter. And the chants/signs/etc. Obviously that didn't work out. And it seems like every January there is a football recruit whose name gets chanted... anyone with time on their hands or a better memory than I going to put up a list, and see what the %ages are? I bet its lower, because you don't need to chant guys that have already commited, it's probably someone who's already committed somewhere else but is still on an official to UF.
