That is precisely what I would have said about Florida's performance on Saturday if I were a 14 year old girl. There were fumbled snaps, missed assignments, dropped balls, missed field goals and general crappiness aplenty all over Florida Field for the better part of 3 hours this past weekend.
I won't go in to too much detail regarding Mike Pouncey's snapping troubles because this has been discussed ad nauseum so far this week. However, I will say this: How many bad snaps does it take before Steve Addazio either A) Puts Sam Robey in at center or B) Stops calling plays that require Pouncey to pull? Does it really require a football genius to fix this problem?
This was supposed to be the coming out party for John Brantley. This was supposed to be the moment that he stepped out from the enormous shadow left by Tim Tebow. All I have heard from Gator haters this week is how over-hyped Johnny B, and they point to his week 1 performance as proof. I would say there really isn't large enough of a sample to pass judgment on how well Brantley can play in this offense. It's kind of hard to make great passes and get the ball downfield when you're constantly chasing after a botched snap 15 yards into your own backfield.
One of the few positives that I can take from this game is the fact that our defense looked really solid. Janoris Jenkins was phenomenal and he should be a Thorpe Award finalist at the end of the season. A lot of freshmen also played well on the defensive side of the ball. Matt Elam and Sharrif Floyd particularly stand out.
That's all I care to discuss about this game. I think it's time to turn the page and move on from this mess.
Player of the Game - Janoris Jenkins - Cornerback, Purveyor of the Pick 6
As I already mentioned, Jenkins put on a show this weekend. There were a ton of questions going into the season regarding the corner spot opposite of Jenkins. I must say, if JJ continues to put in performances like this one, who cares? We could put Kyle Jackson at CB and it wouldn't matter. Well...almost. Jenkins' pick 6 was the clear highlight of the game and it certainly helped to slightly cover up the offensive woes up until the 4th quarter. |
