Tim Tebow Bids Farewell to the Swamp in Style PDF Print E-mail

I took a couple days to let it sink in. Tim Tebow will never play another game in the Swamp. And I was there to give him a final farewell. However, I didn't know that I'd also be giving Bobby Bowden a farewell as well...

It was a pretty great weekend for the Gators. Friday night started with a GREAT performance by the Gator Basketball team against the #2 Michigan State team. Gator City was rocking for sure. The next day started early for me as I headed over to the College Gameday set to see if I could get a Gatorsfirst.com sign on TV (sue me if I like to give a shameless plug or two...) However, to my dismay, the cops told me to put my sign down as I couldn't ''advertise on campus''. Needless to say I wasn't happy.

I ended up moseying my was over to tailgate on campus with fellow G1 founder Jesse Colston and his group of misfits. We hung up our banner alongside Museum Rd, so at the very least we got our name out there, heh. We decided to get into the stadium a bit early to give thanks to the graduating seniors. Every single one got a standing ovation, and met Coach Meyer at midfield. None was louder than that for Tim Tebow. When Timmy and Urban embraced at midfield, I though something special was gonna happen again.

The game itself was a laugher. But I didn't expect anything less from a team that continued to show me heart and an undeniable will to win big games. Trust me, any time you play a hated rival, it's a big game, even if that team isn't as good as they used to be.

Tebow didn't disappoint as he threw for three touchdowns, and ran for another two. As the waning seconds were winding down, Timmy tried his patented ''jump pass'', but Aaron Hernandez tripped at the line of scrimmage and the ball fell to the ground for a harmless incompletion. Even though he's known for the iconic jump pass, I felt that it was more fitting that he ran for a 1-yard touchdown on the very next play, cementing his spot in Florida Gator lore forever.

After the game ended, it was a surreal sight to see every fan in the stadium stick around for an extra 20 minutes to see Tebow do his victory lap around the stadium. I even got a high five. I'm typing with that hand right now. Expect a Pulitzer...

Now we all know that Florida faces their second straight 1 v 2 matchup against Alabama in the SEC championship game next weekend. But try to enjoy the moment that just passed. You'll never see a fan base more proud of it's team.

On a completely different note, I wanted to express my thoughts on something. Reports are out that Bobby Bowden will be stepping down at Florida State tomorrow. Now, with all of the hatred that I have for FSU (grew up a Miami fan in South Florida, then attended UF for seven years), I think it's kinda sad to see a university and fan base completely crap on a legend way that FSU and the Seminole Nation did. He completely put that school on the map, winning two national titles and slew of conference titles, had his team end the season in the top five for 14 consecutive seasons, and coached many future NFL players. To boot, it was always kinda difficult for me to get mad at a guy that always seemed so homely and aloof. There's a reason why so many families sent their sons to Tallahassee, even though it's a dump (gotta stick the knife in a little, heh). I'm just really disappointed to see someone treated so poorly. But, I wouldn't expect anything more from FSU...
