Viva España!!! Spain wins 1:0 over Netherlands in the World Cup. What a wild game. Outstanding displays of skill; crazy fast pace; amazing amount of heart; overtime battle; diving goalie saves; 14 yellow cards; and a flying dragon kick to the chest. You could not ask for any more from the World Cup final, unless you were pulling for the Oranje.

Arjen ROBBEN played an outstanding game for Holland, but Andres INIESTA came away the hero. At the 116-minute mark, in the second overtime period, INIESTA fired it across the goal through STEKELENBURG's fingers into the back of the net. Cesc FABREGAS was the one to set him up with shot. This victory makes Spain the 18th name on the FIFA World Cup. Spain won each elimination game by one goal. They are now the only European team to win the cup outside of Europe.

World CUP Spain

The refs were letting then play. And no one was holding back. They didn't want to create a shorthanded battle without very good reason. There could have been two maybe four red cards this game. The only one was to John HEITINGA on a double yellow, which gave Spain the advantage late in overtime. The most amazing non-red-card of the day was by Nigel DE JONG. He ran in and landed a mid-air kung fu style side kick, cleats up, square into the chest of XABI ALONSO. Intentional, who knows? It earned him a yellow. I like the ref telling the guys to man up, but this one was a little ridiculous.

Maarten STEKELENBURG, Holland's GK, and Iker CASILLAS goalie/captain of Spain were incredible. STEKELENBURG had to step up early. Spain set up an early attack zone. At 5', STEKELENBURG dived across the ground to defend a Sergio RAMOS header from XAVI's free kick. He continued to make saves all game. At the 87-minute mark Cesc FABREGAS came in off the bench and nearly turned the game. He got the ball open in the middle and fired a low shot. STEKELENBURG crashed towards him and muscled a diving foot save. Spain controlled the ball most of the first half. CASILLAS did not have to do much work to keep the first half scoreless. But at 62' Wesley SNEIJDER set up Arjen ROBBEN with a 1-on-1 with the goalie. ROBBEN pumped one and CASILLAS reached a foot back while diving the wrong way to save. ROBBEN agian at 82' sprinted by PUYOL reaching a through ball, juked PIQUE and was narrowly stopped as CASILLAS dived at his feet.
